When Americans say they are proud of their heritage what is the earliest event t Just wondered where in time american national pride start and what the associated event was: Development of American Indian culture, Spanish colonies in Pacific, French colonies in Louisiana, British colonies in Jamestown, Landing of the Pilgrim fathers, the Boston Tea Party, the war and./or declaration of Independence, the winning of the west, the abolition of slavery, the 2 world wars, putting a man on the moon. You choose.
This is a very interesting question as I'm sure everyone will have a different answer. However, I'm Canadian and whenever I talk to Americans, it seems two events split the vote; the first is the successful war against the British for independence and the second is the creation of the constitution including principles that made the Americans wish to separate from Europe in the first place.
I would imagine that those who first left Europe for the New World knew that they were making history. It is exactly the fact that they decided to leave everything they new in their own homes that shows they wanted to be considered apart from their past, and therefore wanted to be recognized as a new nation where they were then living, even if this nation had not yet been formed.
