The Number of Uninsured West Virginians Increases Margret Grassie is like many West Virginians. She worked, and had health insurance through her employer. When the premiums increased, she had to choose between heating and health insurance. Although she continues to work, Grassie became one of the growing number of uninsured West Virginians. Grassie now gets her health care from West Virginia Health Right, a free clinic for the uninsured. They have saved my life, according to Grassie, who suffers from high blood pressure. The United States Census Bureau released the most recent numbers on the number of uninsured Americans on Thursday. Between 2007 and 2008, the number of uninsured grew by 600000, slightly more than one percent, rising from 45.7 to 46.3 million Americans. However, West Virginia saw a 6.7 percent increase in the number of uninsured, going from 254000 in 2007 to 271000 in 2008. This 17000 increased in number of uninsured in West Virginia should be a wake-up call to those who oppose comprehensive health care reform, said Perry Bryant, Executive Director of West Virginians for Affordable Health Care. Every week in 2008, on average, 325 West Virginians loss their insurance and became uninsured. Covering all Americans is both sound economic policy and a moral imperative. Reform should include lowering the cost of health care for those fortunate enough to have health care, and expand <b>...</b>
